October feels like autumn

October is quieter than summer, when Vilnius is at its busiest. You'll generally find fewer visitors in the Old Town and less pressure on accommodation than in peak months. Prices can be gentler too, though festival dates may bring extra demand.

A good month for city breaks

Couples who like unhurried museum visits and cosy café stops may enjoy October more than the busy summer season. You'll need a plan for wet afternoons, but the compact centre makes it easy to duck into the National Museum of Lithuania or a café in Užupis.

For a practical wet-weather route, take the funicular up to Gediminas Tower rather than climbing the hill's exposed path. You can still enjoy the views if the weather clears, without tackling slippery steps. Afterward, warm up with cepelinai, Lithuania's potato dumplings, in the Old Town.
