December in Suzhou is cold and fairly dry. Days reach about 9°C, but nights can dip below freezing, so the cold feels sharper after sunset. Rain is limited, with only a few wet days, and you'll often get some winter sun. Still, shorter daylight hours leave less time for outdoor stops.

You can enjoy city sights and a brisk walk when the sun's out. Huangzangyu National Forest Park, in Xiao County, suits a clear day, but its trails may feel exposed and chilly. Save long outdoor hikes for milder weather, and don't expect a lush green landscape.
