October weather at Angkor

October feels hot, damp and cloudy in Siem Reap. Days reach 31°C, and nights stay warm at 24°C. Rain falls on 19 days, with humid air and limited sunshine, so temple visits can feel sticky and showers may interrupt your plans.

You can still explore Angkor Wat and Bayon between showers. The wet season leaves the moat and countryside lush, and Tonle Sap's high water makes a boat trip appealing. Long outdoor days are less comfortable, though. Save time for a café or the Angkor National Museum if rain sets in.

Festivals and local life

Pchum Ben, a major Cambodian festival honouring ancestors, sometimes falls in October. Its dates follow the lunar calendar, so it can also land in September. If it coincides with your visit, you may see families bringing food to pagodas, including Wat Bo in town.

Travelling with kids? Keep temple outings flexible, since heavy showers and humid afternoons can make long visits tiring.

Crowds and practical tips

October is generally quieter and less expensive than the dry-season peak, especially compared with December and January. It's a useful month if you'd rather share Angkor with fewer visitors, though November's drier weather is more reliable. September is wetter still, with 246 mm of rain versus October's 146 mm.

At Angkor Wat, watch the slick stone steps after rain, especially near the upper levels. Take care rather than rushing between terraces. A tuk-tuk can also make it easier to duck back to town when a shower arrives.
