Shijiazhuang Weather in October

Mild autumn days

October is one of Shijiazhuang's best months to visit. Days reach about 22°C, while evenings cool to around 9°C. Rain is limited, so you can explore the city on foot without often needing to dodge showers. The air feels much more comfortable than in September, which is warmer and wetter.

Head to Zhengding Ancient City for its old temples and streets, or spend a clear day walking around Mount Cangyan. Both are easier to enjoy in autumn's mild weather. Long hikes can still feel chilly once the sun drops, so plan to finish before evening. Don't expect warm beach weather; Shijiazhuang is better for city sights and countryside trips.

National Day crowds

China's National Day holiday runs from October 1 to 7. The first week can bring heavy travel crowds, especially at popular sights and on trains. Hotels and train tickets may also cost more than in a regular October week. Outside the holiday, the city is generally calmer, and October is still a good-value choice compared with major holiday periods.

If you hate crowds, visit Zhengding after the holiday week and keep your sightseeing flexible during the break.

A good time to explore

October has plenty of sunshine for wandering, with about six and a half hours of sun a day. It's also a pleasant time to try local dishes such as donkey-burger sandwiches, a Shijiazhuang favourite, between sights. For a practical day trip, take the train to Zhengding rather than relying on a long drive; it's close to the city and makes an easy outing. Pack something warmer for the ride back after sunset.
