October: cooler days outdoors

October feels much more comfortable than September in Shaoguan. Afternoons reach about 27°C, while evenings cool to around 17°C. Rain is lighter than the month before, with showers on about six days, so you can spend more time outside.

Danxia Mountain is a good fit for clear, dry spells: explore the red cliffs and viewpoints without summer's heavier heat and rain. A damp day can make steep paths slippery, so save the longer walks for a dry forecast. The city's sights, including Nanhua Temple, work well if clouds roll in.

National Day crowds

China's National Day holiday runs from October 1 to 7. Shaoguan's popular sights can fill up, and transport and hotel prices often rise during this week. Outside the holiday, October is generally calmer and less costly than peak holiday dates, though it's a popular month for visiting.

If you hate crowds, go after the National Day rush. You'll still get autumn weather, and Danxia Mountain's viewpoints are more pleasant without as many people around.

A local tip for Danxia

At Danxia Mountain, don't try to cover every trail in one visit. Choose a main viewpoint, such as Yangyuan Stone, and allow time for the climb and the views. If rain has left the paths slick, enjoy the scenery from an easier route instead.

October is one of Shaoguan's best months overall. It's also a useful time to pair a mountain visit with a city stop: cooler evenings make a walk around downtown more comfortable than in September. For the smoothest trip, avoid arriving during the National Day holiday if you can.
