Visiting San Juan in June
Heat and showers
June feels hot and sticky in San Juan, with highs around 30°C and nights staying warm. Humidity is high, and rain falls on many days, often making afternoons feel heavy. There's less sunshine than the long daylight suggests, so don't count on a clear beach day every day.
Old San Juan's forts still work well for a visit, but the open paths at Castillo San Felipe del Morro can feel exposed in the heat. Rain can also make the old streets slippery. Save indoor stops, such as Casa Blanca Museum, for a wet spell. For families, the long days are useful, but little ones may tire quickly on sunny fort walks.
June nights
The main local event is Noche de San Juan, held around the feast day of Saint John the Baptist. People gather at beaches, including around Condado, and some follow the custom of falling backwards into the sea at midnight for good luck. Expect lively beach areas that evening, rather than a quiet night by the water.
June is outside San Juan's busiest winter season, so the city generally feels less crowded and stays are often better value than in peak months. Summer holidays can still bring families, especially near beaches. The weather is wetter than May, though June gets less rain overall than July.
Make room for rain
Plan Old San Juan as a flexible day. If showers pass through, duck into a café for a mallorca, a soft, sweet local pastry, then return to the streets when they ease. The blue cobbles around Calle del Cristo can be slick after rain, so take care there.
Beach time can still fit into your trip, but keep plans loose rather than setting aside every afternoon for the shore. June's weather is a poor match for visitors who want reliably sunny sightseeing; January to March is a better bet for that.
