Salalah Weather in April

April: warm and mostly dry

April is a good month to visit Salalah, scoring 7.4 out of 10, though December to February are even better. Highs reach about 32°C and nights stay near 24°C, and the sun shines for much of the day. Rain is rare, so you can plan on dry weather. Al Baleed Archaeological Park and the frankincense stalls in Al Haffa are both worth your time, but save long walks for the cooler parts of the day, especially in open places, since the midday heat wears you down quickly. The sea and coast are still good reasons to visit, but this isn't the cool season for long hikes.

Events and local life

April doesn't have a fixed, major annual festival in Salalah. Eid al-Fitr may fall in April in some years, but its date moves with the Islamic lunar calendar, so check the dates before you go. If it lands during your trip, expect holiday hours to affect shops and services, and local families to gather for celebrations. Salalah's famous Khareef season, when the hills turn green, arrives later in the year, so it won't be part of your April trip.

Quieter than peak season

April is generally quieter than Khareef and the December-to-February period, which are the busier months when more people visit. You're less likely to face crowds, and stays may cost less. If you prefer calm streets to packed sights, April can suit you, as long as the heat doesn't bother you too much. If it does, Sanaa and Manama both rate higher this month, though each is more than 1,000 km away.

A useful local stop is Al Haffa souq. Go later in the day to browse frankincense and let the worst of the afternoon heat pass. April is a little warmer and much drier than March, and a touch cooler and far drier than May, so it sits in a fairly comfortable middle ground.
