March: warm and showery

March feels hot and sticky, with daytime highs around 31°C and warm nights. Rain falls on many days, often breaking up plans rather than washing out a whole visit. You'll get some sunshine too, but the weather can change quickly.

Beach time at Boa Viagem may work between showers, while Recife Antigo's museums and covered cafés make useful rainy-day stops. The Paço do Frevo, a museum devoted to Recife's lively frevo music and dance, is a good indoor choice. Long walks in the midday heat can feel tiring, so save the city's outdoor sights for a cooler spell.

Events and local life

Recife's anniversary falls on March 12, with celebrations around the city. March 19 is São José's Day, a public holiday in Pernambuco, so some services and shops may change their hours. Carnival dates shift each year; in some years, celebrations fall in March and bring a sharp jump in crowds.
