April: heat builds

April feels like a tough month for long days outside in Rangpur. Highs reach 37°C, and even nights stay warm. The month is hotter than March, while rain becomes more frequent. Showers fall on many days, but they don't make the afternoons feel cool.

You can still visit Tajhat Palace, but keep your time outdoors short and spend the hottest part of the day inside. Save a walk around Carmichael College's grounds for a cooler morning or evening. Long sightseeing trips in the midday heat can feel draining.

New Year, wet afternoons

Pohela Boishakh, the Bengali New Year, falls in mid-April. Rangpur may have local celebrations, though the biggest events are usually in larger cities. Ask locally about programmes before setting out. The month's rain can bring a sudden shower, so an outdoor event may not go exactly to plan.

Travelling with kids? Keep a flexible day, with Tajhat Palace as an indoor stop if the heat or rain catches you out.

Quieter than winter

April is generally less busy than Rangpur's December-to-February high season. You'll likely find fewer winter visitors, and places to stay may cost less than in those popular months. The trade-off is uncomfortable heat and rising rain; May is wetter still. If you hate crowds, April can work, as long as you're happy to take sightseeing slowly.

For a practical local stop, try Rangpur's sweetmeats during a break from the heat. Ask for local favourites at a shop near the town centre, then enjoy them somewhere cool rather than carrying them around Tajhat Palace. Don't plan a packed outdoor itinerary: April's weather can turn a short outing into a tiring one.
