November to February: the sweet spot
This is when Rangpur is at its best. Days are dry, sunny and mild, with highs from 24°C to 28°C. Nights get properly cool, especially in December and January, when lows dip to 11–13°C. You'll want a jacket for early mornings and evenings. Fog can sit over the fields in the early hours, so don't expect clear views at dawn.
It's the time to wander. You can visit Tajhat Palace in the city without sweating through your shirt. You can also take a day trip to Vinjan Zamindar Bari or the Carmichael-era sites nearby. Winter is also when sweet date-palm sap and pitha (rice cakes, often steamed or fried) show up in local homes and street stalls. Try them if you're offered.
Winter is high season for visitors, though Rangpur never feels packed. Local families travel more around Eid and Durga Puja, and Pohela Boishakh in mid-April is a big day out. Book a hotel early if your trip lands on one of these.
March to April: hot and getting stormy
March is still decent, with highs of 34°C and only a little rain. By April it's the hottest month of the year at 37°C, and rain jumps to 112 mm on 14 days. Afternoons turn heavy and sticky. Then come sudden thunderstorms, called kalbaishakhi, which are short but fierce.
If you want to see Pohela Boishakh, the Bengali new year in mid-April, come for it. Expect street fairs, panta bhat (fermented rice) and plenty of heat. Plan your outdoor time for the morning.
May to October: the monsoon
Be honest with yourself about this stretch. From May to September it rains on most days, and June to August bring more than 340 mm a month. July and August are tied for the wettest days at 27 each, though June has the highest total at 386 mm. The sun barely shows, and humidity sits near 87%.
Rural roads turn muddy, and the nearby rivers, including the Teesta, swell. Boat trips and village visits get harder to plan. On the plus side, the paddy fields are bright green and you'll have places to yourself. If you're travelling this season, keep your days flexible and stay in town.
October is the shoulder month. Rain eases to 174 mm, sun returns, and the air is still very humid. It's a fair option if you can't wait until November.
