September still feels like summer in Qingyuan: afternoons are hot, nights stay warm, and the air is very humid. Rain falls on many days, often making outdoor plans less predictable. You'll get some sunshine, but clouds and showers can interrupt a day out.

The heat and wet paths can make long walks around Gulong Gorge tiring. Keep flexible plans, and don't count on a full day of rafting or sightseeing outdoors; check local conditions before setting out. Indoor stops or a relaxed meal of Qingyuan chicken are easier to fit around showers.

Events and crowds

The Mid-Autumn Festival sometimes falls in September, though its date changes each year. When it does, families gather and travel can pick up around the holiday. Check your dates, especially if you're heading to popular sights near the festival.

If you hate crowds, September is usually calmer than the peak summer holiday months. It also comes before the busy National Day holiday in early October, when domestic travel surges. Prices may be gentler than during those peak periods, but holiday dates can change the picture.

Making the most of your visit

Treat September as a flexible city-and-food trip, not a month for relying on perfect gorge weather. You can explore Qingyuan's urban areas between showers, then make a day trip to Gulong Gorge if conditions look suitable. October is much drier, while November to February are the best months overall for comfortable sightseeing.

Travelling with kids? Keep a rainy-day option in Qingcheng District, and avoid committing the whole day to an outdoor attraction.

For Gulong Gorge, ask locally whether rain has affected access or activities before you travel there. Roads and paths can be slippery after showers, and conditions may change quickly. If the forecast looks unsettled, save the gorge for another day and enjoy a meal of Qingyuan chicken instead.
