Qingyuan Weather in January

Cool days outdoors

January feels mild by day and chilly after dark. Qingyuan reaches about 20°C, but mornings can start near 8°C. Rain comes on several days, and cloudy spells are common. It's a comfortable month for exploring Feilai Temple or walking along the Beijiang River without summer heat.

Wet paths can make the steps and trails around Gulong Gorge slippery. Save the glass bridge for a dry day, and don't count on clear views when clouds settle over the hills.

New Year timing

The Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year, sometimes falls in January, though it often lands in February. Its date changes each year. If it overlaps your visit, expect more local travel and busy transport around the holiday. Qingyuan's hot springs can be especially appealing on cool evenings.

If you hate crowds, avoid travelling during the Spring Festival break.

Crowds and local tips

January is within Qingyuan's popular November-to-February travel season, so it's not the quietest time. Outside the holiday rush, though, it can feel calmer than peak festival days. Prices may rise during the break; on ordinary January days, they're generally less pressured than then.

For a rainy afternoon, try Qingyuan chicken, a local specialty, at a restaurant in town. For Gulong Gorge, check conditions before setting out: wet weather can make its outdoor walkways less pleasant, and cloud can hide the scenery. Expect a cool evening after a mild day, especially by the river.
