August weather

August is warm and often damp in Qingyang. Afternoons reach 27°C, while evenings cool to 16°C. Rain falls on 12 days, and cloudy skies are common, so outdoor plans can be interrupted by showers.

The cooler parts of the day suit a visit to the Beishiku Temple, where you can see Buddhist carvings in hillside caves. Keep a flexible plan for the open-air sections, and avoid making a long countryside walk your only activity. Rain can leave paths muddy.

Festivals and crowds

August falls within China's summer school holidays, so family travel can make popular sights busier than in spring or early summer. Local prices may also be higher than in quieter months, though Qingyang is less of a major tourist hub than China's best-known cities.

Qixi, the traditional festival for lovers, sometimes falls in August. Its date follows the lunar calendar, and it isn't a fixed Qingyang event, so don't build your trip around a festival programme.

Make room for rain

Compared with July, August is a little cooler and gets slightly less rain. September is cooler and drier still, so August isn't the easiest month for a weather-dependent visit. Still, its long daylight gives you room to fit sightseeing around passing showers.

A Qingyang-specific tip: check the local forecast before heading to Beishiku Temple, outside the city centre. That way, you can save the cave visit for a clearer spell and use a rainy stretch to explore Xifeng's indoor sights instead.
