November is a cool, autumnal month in Nanjing. Afternoons reach about 17°C, but mornings and evenings can feel chilly, with lows near 6°C. Rain falls on around seven days, so most days still leave room to explore. The daylight is shorter too, so it's best to plan longer outings for the brighter part of the day.

It's a good month for walking around the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum and its tree-lined paths, or browsing the old lanes of Laomendong. The air is usually more comfortable for sightseeing than in summer, but wet paths can make longer walks less pleasant. November is a solid choice, though April and October are even better, so if you have the flexibility, aim for one of those.

Autumn colour and local dates

Qixia Mountain is the November draw. Its red maple leaves usually colour the slopes in autumn, though the best moment shifts with the weather, so expect more visitors there when the leaves are at their peak. Nanjing's major national memorial day falls in December, not November, so it won't shape your plans this month.

November 11 is Singles' Day, a huge online shopping event across China, rather than a public holiday or a Nanjing festival. You may notice shopping promotions, but it rarely changes the feel of a sightseeing trip.

Crowds and practical tips

November is quieter than the busy spring and October periods, and prices tend to be less pressured than in October, one of Nanjing's best-known travel months. Qixia can still fill up during peak foliage, though, so don't assume you'll have it to yourself.

If you hate crowds, visit Qixia on a weekday and save Laomendong for later in the day. Travelling with kids? Keep the mountain walk flexible if rain has left the steps slippery. At Ming Xiaoling, look out for the stone animals along the Sacred Way. They make an easy, memorable stop even if you don't want a long walk.
