June weather

June in Nanchong feels warm, damp and often cloudy. Afternoons reach 31°C, while evenings stay mild. Rain falls on many days, and the high humidity can make walking around feel sticky. You'll get plenty of daylight, but little direct sun.

The Jialing River and Nanchong's old streets still make good short outings between showers. For a longer walk, choose a covered stretch of the city's riverside paths. Save exposed sightseeing and countryside hikes for a clearer day. Heavy rain can make muddy trails less pleasant.

What to do

If you hate crowds, June is a quieter choice than the main summer holiday period. It's also generally a lower-demand month than March and November, Nanchong's best-weather months, so you may find better value on stays. Rain is the trade-off.

The Dragon Boat Festival sometimes falls in June, though its date changes each year. If it does, look out for zongzi, sticky rice parcels wrapped in leaves, and local festival activity. Don't count on the festival being in June every year.

Make rain work for you

Travelling with kids? Keep a flexible day for Nanchong's indoor sights, and save a riverside stroll for a break in the rain. June is warmer and wetter than May, and July brings even more rain, so it's not the best month for a weather-led trip.

For a practical local stop, head to Langzhong Ancient City when the forecast allows. It's a historic riverside town in the wider Nanchong area; wet stone lanes can be slippery, so keep the visit short after rain. In town, try Nanchong rice noodles in a covered restaurant when a shower rolls through.
