India · July climate averages and travel tips
In July, Nagpur has average highs of 31°C (88°F) and lows of 24°C (76°F). The month is very wet, with about 422 mm (16.6 in) of rain spread over 27 days, making it the wettest month of the year. Is July a good time to visit Nagpur?
July is not the best time to visit Nagpur (1.2/10) mainly because of the rain. The weather is much better in November to January.
Visiting Nagpur in July
July: monsoon days
Nagpur in July is hot, damp and very rainy. The air feels sticky, the skies stay mostly cloudy, and rain falls on most days, so this isn't the month to count on clear views. Showers can cut into sightseeing, and muddy paths and slippery steps make outdoor walks less pleasant. The rain does bring relief from June's harsher heat, but you pay for it in other ways.
Still, you can get plenty done. Visit Deekshabhoomi when the weather allows, and save the Raman Science Centre for a wet afternoon. Keep outdoor plans flexible, and don't count on a dry afternoon at Ambazari Lake. July's long daylight hours don't mean much sunshine, since the city averages just an hour a day.
Festivals and quieter streets
Ashadhi Ekadashi, an important Hindu festival, can fall in July. Its date follows the lunar calendar, though, so it doesn't land in July every year. You may also find Guru Purnima observances in July, depending on the year.
If you'd rather avoid crowds, July is a quieter time to visit than the popular November-to-January season, when Nagpur's weather is at its best. Monsoon is low season, so visitor demand and hotel prices are generally lower than in those cooler months. The trade-off is the rain, and getting around can take longer when roads are wet.
Make rain work for you
Travelling with kids? Keep the Raman Science Centre in reserve for a spell of heavy rain, then head outside once conditions ease. It's a handy backup near the city centre, unlike a long outing to a lake or garden.
Food is a good reason to head out anyway. Try Nagpur's tarri poha, poha topped with a spicy, thin pea curry. Pick a busy stall in Dharampeth or Sitabuldi, where you can duck inside if rain starts. July's heat and humidity can make a steaming bowl feel intense, so ask for less tarri if you prefer a milder breakfast.
