April: warm with passing showers

April feels hot from morning to evening, with humid air and plenty of cloud. You'll get some sunny beach time, but rain falls on several days, often in passing showers. It's drier than May, though wetter than March, so April sits between the two.

Doctor's Cave Beach is still a good choice, and the warm sea makes a swim appealing. You can also visit Rose Hall Great House or wander the Hip Strip between showers. Long hikes in exposed heat may feel tiring, so keep mountain walks for cooler parts of the day.

Easter and school breaks

Good Friday and Easter Monday can fall in April, bringing public holidays and local events. Dates change each year, so the feel of the month depends partly on when Easter lands. Some shops and services may close or run shorter hours on the holidays.

If you hate crowds, avoid the Easter weekend around Doctor's Cave Beach and the Hip Strip. US spring-break visitors can also add to the party scene in Montego Bay.

Crowds, prices and local tips

April is usually less consistently busy than the winter high season, when visitors come for Jamaica's drier weather. But Easter and spring breaks can bring a sharp rush, and prices may rise around those dates. Outside the holiday period, you may find a calmer city and better value than in peak winter.

Travelling with kids? Check whether Doctor's Cave Beach is open before setting off; it's a private beach with an entrance fee. If a shower rolls through, head to the Rose Hall Great House tour rather than waiting out the rain on the Hip Strip.
