Kingston Weather in April

April: hot, with some showers

April feels properly hot in Kingston, with afternoons around 30°C and warm nights near 25°C. You'll get plenty of sunshine, but rain falls on several days. Showers can interrupt a walk, though they usually leave time for sights and meals.

The National Gallery of Jamaica and Devon House work well between showers. For a cooler change, take a drive up to the Blue Mountains; the air feels fresher there. Save long walks through downtown for a less sticky part of the day.

Easter and Carnival

Good Friday and Easter Monday fall in April in some years, so public holidays can affect opening hours and transport. Kingston Carnival also usually takes place around April, with road events and music that draw big local crowds. Dates vary, so check the year's schedule before making plans around the parade.

If you hate crowds, avoid the Carnival route on event day and visit Port Royal instead.

Crowds and local tips

April is still within Kingston's best-weather season, which runs from December to April. It's generally busier than May, when rain rises sharply, but quieter than the Christmas and New Year peak. Easter and Carnival can make particular days feel packed, and popular hotels may cost more then.

At Devon House, try the famous Devon House I-Scream after visiting the historic mansion. It's an easy stop in New Kingston, and a handy reward when the afternoon heat starts to wear you down. If rain comes on, duck inside for a scoop rather than letting a shower derail your plans.
