Visiting Medellin in August
August weather in Medellín
August is mild, but often damp and cloudy. Days reach 24°C and nights dip to 17°C, while rain falls on 25 days of the month. High humidity can make the air feel sticky, and you'll get limited sunshine.
You can still visit museums such as the Museo de Antioquia, ride the Metro, or take a food break over a bowl of bandeja paisa. But don't count on clear views from outdoor spots like Pueblito Paisa. Long hikes can also turn muddy, so keep your plans flexible.
Flowers and festival crowds
The Feria de las Flores is Medellín's big August event, though its dates vary each year. The highlight is the Desfile de Silleteros, where flower growers carry elaborate displays through the city. Expect busy streets and fuller hotels during festival days.
August 7 is Colombia's Battle of Boyacá holiday, which can add local travel and activity around the long weekend. Away from the flower festival, August is usually less sought-after than Medellín's drier best months, June and October to December. Prices can rise during festival week, then ease when the crowds leave.
Families who enjoy music, flowers and street events may love festival week; families wanting quiet outings should choose another time.
A practical August tip
Rainfall is slightly higher than in July, but close to September's level. So August isn't a dry break between wetter months. Leave room in your schedule for rain, and avoid making an outdoor attraction the only plan for the day.
At Comuna 13, the outdoor escalators and painted walkways can be slippery when wet. Go when conditions are dry, or swap the visit for the Museo de Antioquia and nearby Plaza Botero. That way, a grey spell won't leave you stuck waiting for a view.
