January weather

January feels warm and sticky in Manila, with daytime highs around 28°C and mild evenings. Rain is common, so don't count on a full day outdoors. Showers can interrupt a walk through Intramuros or a visit to Rizal Park, but the National Museum gives you a good indoor option.

The rain eases compared with December, though January still gets wet days. February is a little warmer and drier. Treat Manila Bay sunsets as a bonus, not the main event.

What's on

The Feast of the Black Nazarene takes place in Quiapo on January 9. Its huge Traslación procession carries a statue through the streets, drawing crowds and closing roads. It's a major event, but getting around central Manila can be difficult that day.

If you hate crowds, avoid Quiapo and nearby streets during the procession. Travelling with kids? Choose a quieter museum day instead.

Crowds and costs

Christmas and New Year bring a busy period, but crowds often ease after the holidays. January can feel calmer than December, except around the Black Nazarene feast. Hotel prices may also drop after the holiday peak, though rates vary by area and date.

For a practical route around the feast, take the LRT-1 to Carriedo station for Quiapo, but expect closures and packed trains nearby. If you're visiting the church, check how the procession affects access before setting out. Don't rely on a car to cross central Manila that day.
