April feels like spring

Hanzhong is mild in April, with afternoons that reach 24°C and evenings that drop to about 11°C. It's one of the best months to visit, and it rates Excellent on our comfort score at 8.8/10. You'll still want to plan around the weather, though. Rain falls on about ten days, and cloudy spells are common, so sunshine can be limited. March and November are the other best months here. March is cooler and drier, and May turns much wetter, so April hits a sweet spot between the two.

It's a good month for walking around Hantai District or visiting the Hanzhong Museum. The countryside is lovely for spring flowers too. Just keep long outdoor plans flexible, since muddy paths after a shower can make countryside walks less enjoyable.

Flowers and holiday crowds

Rapeseed fields are a spring draw around Hanzhong, and the city's annual rapeseed flower festival is usually held in this season. Qingming, the tomb-sweeping holiday, also falls in April, so expect more visitors around the holiday and at popular flower-viewing spots.

If you dislike crowds, visit the countryside on a weekday and avoid the Qingming travel period. April is a popular spring month, so accommodation can cost more than it does in quieter winter months. Outside the holiday, it's usually calmer than the busy summer season.

April in Hanzhong: local tips

For a local outing, ask about flower-viewing areas around the Hanzhong Basin rather than sticking to the city centre. The fields are spread across the countryside, so check transport to your chosen spot before you set out. If rain has left rural tracks slippery, stick to paved routes.

Travelling with kids? Keep a rainy-day option like the Hanzhong Museum in reserve. April is also a good time to try mianpi, Hanzhong's chewy rice-noodle dish, at a local restaurant after a damp afternoon. The season works well for a mix of city sights and countryside.
