May feels warm and springlike in Hamilton, without June's stronger heat. The sea air can feel sticky, though humidity is high, and clouds often soften the sunshine. Rain comes in passing showers, so Front Street and the Royal Naval Dockyard ferry make easy plans to switch between.

With long daylight and pleasant conditions, you can explore the shops, visit the Bermuda National Gallery or take a coastal walk. Beach trips work too, but May isn't reliably dry: rain falls on 13 days on average. Keep a flexible plan rather than counting on an uninterrupted beach day.

Bermuda Day

Bermuda Day falls on the last Friday in May, with a big parade through Hamilton. You'll see Gombey dancers, music and decorated floats along Front Street. The Bermuda Day Half Marathon Derby also finishes in the city, after runners travel from St George's.

If you're visiting for the parade, expect road closures and local crowds in central Hamilton. Travelling with kids? The colourful procession is fun to watch, but choose a spot away from the busiest stretch of Front Street.

Crowds and costs

May is one of Bermuda's better months for a visit, alongside April and November. Hamilton is generally quieter than during the busier summer season, and prices are often less pressured than in peak summer. Bermuda Day is an exception: local celebrations can make the city busier, and demand may rise around the holiday.
