Warm days by the harbour

December in Gustavia feels warm and fairly sunny, with highs around 27°C and lows near 26°C. Humidity is noticeable, but rain is lighter than in November, with showers on several days. You'll still get plenty of sun for a swim at Shell Beach or a stroll around the harbour.

It's a good month for outdoor sightseeing, though a passing shower can interrupt a beach afternoon. If you're planning a longer walk up to Fort Karl, expect warm conditions on the exposed steps. Gustavia's shops and cafés make an easy retreat when the sun or humidity feels like too much.

Christmas and New Year

December brings Christmas celebrations and the start of St Barth's busy festive season. New Year is a major moment in Gustavia: large yachts gather in the harbour, and the waterfront takes on a celebratory feel. It's worth enjoying the view from the quays, but don't expect a quiet evening there.

High season starts

December is busier and generally more expensive than the quieter, wetter autumn months. For a practical local tip, walk to Shell Beach from central Gustavia rather than trying to find parking nearby. The route is short, and you can stop for a drink or a plate of accras—fried salt-cod fritters—along the way. If you hate crowds, visit the harbour earlier in the day, before the festive evening scene builds.
