Mild days outdoors

October feels comfortable for exploring Cixi. Afternoons are mild, evenings cooler, and the air can feel damp. Rain falls on several days, so a shower may interrupt a walk, but it usually isn't a reason to stay indoors all day.

You can spend a dry spell wandering Minghe Ancient Town or visiting Hangzhou Bay National Wetland Park. Cloudy skies and occasional rain are less suited to a full day outdoors, so keep indoor stops in mind. Compared with September, October is cooler and much less rainy. November brings cooler days again.

National Day crowds

China's National Day holiday falls in October, with a busy travel period known as Golden Week. Popular sights and transport can get crowded then, and prices often rise compared with quieter weeks. Outside the holiday, Cixi is generally calmer; October is still one of the best months to visit.

Families who want quieter walks may prefer to come after Golden Week, when Minghe's old lanes are easier to explore at a relaxed pace.

For Hangzhou Bay National Wetland Park, allow time for the journey from central Cixi rather than treating it as a quick stop between city sights. Its open paths can feel exposed when rain or cloud rolls in, so check the day's conditions before setting out and keep Minghe Ancient Town as an easier alternative.

October's comfortable weather suits slow sightseeing better than a packed schedule. The wet days are worth factoring in, but they don't usually define the whole visit. Outside the holiday rush, you'll get a pleasant balance of mild weather and room to explore.
