Visiting Chongqing in November
November weather
November feels cool and often grey in Chongqing. Days reach about 18°C, while evenings can feel chilly at around 10°C. Rain falls on several days, but it's much drier than October. Expect plenty of cloud and limited sunshine, rather than a clear view every day.
The mild weather works well for walking around Ciqikou's old lanes or taking in the river views from Hongya Cave. You can also ride the Yangtze River Cableway without summer heat. Rain can make Chongqing's steep steps and stone streets slippery, so skip long hill walks when the ground is wet. A river view may disappear into mist, too.
Quieter days
November is one of Chongqing's best months to visit, but it's quieter than October's Golden Week, China's major national holiday. There's no big nationwide public holiday in November, so you'll generally find fewer domestic holiday crowds. Rooms and flights can also cost less than during peak holiday periods, though prices vary.
If you hate crowds, November's a good time for the popular sights. Weekends can still draw local visitors to Hongya Cave and Jiefangbei, so weekdays feel calmer. China's Singles' Day falls on November 11. It's mainly a huge online shopping event, not a reason to expect street celebrations.
Make the most of it
For a practical local tip, take the Liziba monorail through the apartment building, then explore nearby streets on foot. The line is part of Chongqing's everyday transport, and the ride gives you a close look at the city's steep, layered layout. If it's cloudy, you can still enjoy the ride; just don't count on far-reaching views.
Travelling with kids? Keep the Liziba stop short and pair it with an indoor break if rain sets in. A bowl of Chongqing hotpot is a cosy end to a cool evening, but ask for a less spicy broth if you're not used to the local heat.
