February is one of Chattogram's best months for getting around. Days feel warm rather than scorching, and evenings are cooler. There's plenty of sunshine, with rain usually limited to a couple of days.

That suits city sights such as the Ethnological Museum and the old buildings around Anderkilla. You can also make the trip to Patenga Beach without the sticky heat that builds in March. Save long walks in exposed spots for the cooler parts of the day. February isn't the month for dramatic rain, but a brief shower can still interrupt an outing.

Holidays and city life

International Mother Language Day falls on February 21. People gather at Shaheed Minars to honour those who died defending the Bengali language. In Chattogram, expect more visitors and traffic near the city's memorial and central streets around the observance.

If you hate crowds, visit major sights on a different day. February is a popular time to travel in Bangladesh because the weather is comfortable, so it's generally busier than the hot, wetter months ahead. Accommodation can also cost more than in less popular periods, though prices vary by hotel and demand.

Travelling with kids? February's mild evenings make a walk along Patenga's seafront more comfortable, though the beach can still draw local families.

For a local food stop, try mezban beef, a rich beef dish associated with Chattogram. Ask your hotel or a local driver where it's being served; it's often linked to community feasts rather than a set restaurant menu. Around February 21, allow extra time for journeys through central areas, especially near the Shaheed Minar. The pleasant weather makes day trips appealing, but don't count on a beach day being quiet.
