Chattogram Weather in January

January weather

January feels mild and mostly dry in Chattogram. Afternoons reach around 24°C, while evenings cool to about 14°C. There's little rain, plenty of sun and comfortable weather for walking around Foy's Lake or visiting the Ethnological Museum.

It's a good month for a trip to Patenga Beach or a boat ride on the Karnaphuli River. You can enjoy being outdoors without the sticky heat that builds later in the year. Don't expect a hot beach day, though; the sea breeze can make Patenga feel cool, especially later on.

What to do

If you enjoy city walks, explore the old streets around Anderkilla and stop for mezban beef, a local spicy beef dish. January's clear, sunny days also suit a visit to the Shrine of Bayazid Bostami. The grounds are easier to explore when rain is unlikely.

Travelling with kids? Foy's Lake is a handy outing, with open space and boat rides. For a quieter beach visit, try Patenga on a weekday rather than joining the after-work crowd.

Crowds and costs

January is one of Chattogram's best months for weather, so it's busier than the hot, wet months. Hotels may cost more than during the monsoon, when rain can disrupt outdoor plans. The city isn't a major international holiday hub, but local visitors head to popular spots such as Patenga and Foy's Lake.

There isn't a widely celebrated city-wide January festival to plan around. For Patenga, take a ride-hailing car or local transport and allow extra time on the way back; traffic can build along the beach road, especially near sunset.
