June weather in Bern

June feels mild rather than reliably sunny. Days reach around 22°C, while evenings cool to about 12°C. Rain falls often, and cloud can roll over the rooftops, so keep indoor sights in mind.

You can still enjoy the arcades of the Old Town, the Zytglogge clock tower and long walks along the Aare. On a clear day, join locals for a swim in the river, but don't count on every afternoon being dry. The weather can turn a riverside picnic into a quick dash for cover.

What to do

June's long daylight makes it easier to fit in a museum visit and an evening stroll. The Bern Historical Museum is a good rainy-day stop, while the Rose Garden gives you views over the Old Town when the skies clear.

The Fête de la Musique brings live performances around the city in June. Pentecost and Whit Monday can also fall in the month; some shops may close on the public holiday.

Travelling with kids? The BearPark is an easy stop, and the covered arcades offer shelter if showers arrive.

Crowds and local tips

June is summer season, so Bern feels busier than in the quieter winter months. You'll find more visitors around the Zytglogge and the river, and accommodation can cost more than in less popular months. It's not usually as crowded as peak holiday weeks later in summer.

If you hate crowds, visit the BearPark on a weekday and save the Aare swim for a sunny spell. For river access, follow the locals' route from Marzili to the water; check the current and conditions before getting in. Afterward, try a plate of Berner Platte, a traditional mix of meats and sausages, at a restaurant in the Old Town.
