October's wet-season feel

October is warm, sticky and often cloudy in Belmopan. Highs reach 29°C, but the bigger challenge is rain: it falls on 21 days, with high humidity making afternoons feel heavy. September is wetter still, while November is a little drier and cooler.

You can still explore central Belmopan between showers, including the National Assembly building and the market. Keep plans flexible, though. Heavy rain can make forest trails muddy and turn outdoor sightseeing into a soggy slog. Long hikes and full-day trips are best avoided when storms are forecast.

Holidays and quieter days

Pan American Day falls in October and is a public holiday in Belize. It can bring local observances, but don't expect a large festival scene in Belmopan. Halloween is also marked, though it isn't the main event of the month.

If you hate crowds, October is a quieter time than the busy dry-season months. It's low season, so you may find better value on stays and tours, but some operators can run fewer trips when rain disrupts plans. Belmopan usually feels calm; the weather, rather than crowds, is the main thing shaping your day.

Make the rain work for you

Travelling with kids? Keep a rainy-day option nearby, such as the small shops and cafés around central Belmopan, instead of counting on a long outdoor outing.

For a break between showers, visit Guanacaste National Park, just outside the city. Its short trails are easier to fit around changing weather than a remote trek, but they can get slick after rain. Ask locally about trail conditions before setting out, and save the scenic Hummingbird Highway drive for a clearer spell. If the sky turns dark, head back rather than risk flooded or slippery roads.
