April's heat

April feels hot in Belmopan, with afternoons reaching 35°C and nights staying warm. You'll get plenty of sun, but showers can still interrupt a day; rain falls on several days, though the month is drier than May.

Sightseeing works best when you keep outdoor stops short. Guanacaste National Park, just outside the city, is a good choice for a shaded walk. Save longer hikes or exposed walks for another month, and don't expect a cool evening to take the edge off.

Easter and local events

Easter can fall in April, bringing Holy Week services and holiday travel across Belize. Some businesses may close or keep shorter hours, especially around Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Belmopan is quieter than the coastal resorts, but transport and popular holiday spots can feel busier.

If you hate crowds, avoid travelling on the main Easter days. The National Agriculture and Trade Show is held at Belmopan's showgrounds, often around late April or early May, but its timing varies. Check whether it falls during your visit.

April sits in Belize's busy dry-season period, while February and March are generally better months for weather. Easter can push up demand for rooms and transport, though Belmopan usually feels less touristy than beach towns. May brings much more rain, so April offers better odds for day trips.

Travelling with kids? Try the Belize Zoo, on the George Price Highway towards Belize City, before the hottest part of the day. Guanacaste National Park is another nearby stop, but its trails offer little relief from afternoon heat. For a meal back in town, look for rice and beans with stewed chicken at a local restaurant.
