July: hot and rain-soaked

July feels sticky in Belmopan, with warm nights and humid afternoons. Rain falls on many days, often in heavy bursts, and cloudy skies can make the heat feel close. You'll get some sunshine, but don't count on a full day of it.

The Belize Zoo works well between showers, since its shaded paths let you take breaks. Save long hikes or cave trips for a drier spell; muddy trails and sudden downpours can make them harder. June is wetter, while August brings slightly more rain, so July sits between two soggy months.

Fiesta time in Cayo

The Benque Viejo del Carmen Fiesta takes place in July, with celebrations for Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Benque Viejo del Carmen is a short trip west of Belmopan, near the Guatemala border. It's a good chance to see a local festival, though rain may interrupt outdoor events.

If you hate crowds, Belmopan itself is usually calmer than the fiesta grounds during celebrations.

Quieter than the dry season

July is part of Belize's rainy, lower season, so Belmopan generally sees fewer international visitors and softer hotel rates than in the drier months. February and March are more popular for reliably better weather. Don't expect the fiesta to make the whole city crowded, but local transport toward Benque can be busier around events.

For a practical rainy-day plan, visit St Herman's Blue Hole National Park off the Hummingbird Highway. The river-fed swimming spot is close to Belmopan, but heavy rain can muddy the water and make the surrounding paths slippery. Check conditions locally before setting out.
