Best Time to Visit Yichun

Autumn is the sweet spot

October and November are your best bet in Yichun. October is the driest month, with warm afternoons and cool mornings. November turns crisper, and you'll want a jacket by evening. Rain still comes, but it's less constant, and you get more sun than at any other time of year.

This is the time for Mingyue Mountain, the area's best-known peak, which is famous for its hot springs and forest walks. Cool air makes the steps and trails easier. Sep is a good shoulder month too, though the first half still feels summery.

The Golden Week holiday in early October brings the biggest domestic crowds. If you hate queues at the mountain gate, aim for late October or November.

Spring is green and soggy

March to May is when Yichun gets properly wet. Rain falls on about 17 or 18 days a month, and the skies stay grey. March and April are mild, which suits walking, but pack a proper umbrella and expect damp shoes. By May it's warm and muggy, and our rating drops to Poor.

April is still worth it if you like lush hills and don't mind showers. Rice fields are being planted around then, so the countryside looks fresh. Check the forecast before you commit to a long hike, because mist can hide the views from a summit.

Summer is hot and heavy

June is the wettest month, with 299 mm on 19 days. July and August are the hottest, both with highs of 32°C. Nights barely cool down, with lows of 24°C or more. July and August are drier than June, and they get more sun, but the air stays sticky.

Summer school holidays bring families up to the cooler hills, so mountain towns can feel busy. If you come now, plan your days around the heat. Spend afternoons indoors or by water, and save walks for the morning.

Winter is quiet and chilly

December to February is the low season. Days are cool, around 11°C to 14°C, and nights drop close to freezing in January. Most buildings here have little heating, so rooms can feel colder than the number suggests. December is fairly dry and rated Good, while February is gloomy and wet. Chinese New Year usually falls in late January or February, and many local shops close for a few days. If you want hot springs at Mingyue Mountain without the crowds, a December visit makes sense.
