April is warm, damp and cloudy in Yaren, with highs and lows both at 28°C. Humidity sits at 82%, so even a short walk can feel sticky. Rain falls on 19 days, and the sun shines for only about 4 hours a day, so plans often get interrupted. That's why April rates poorly here.

You can still get out, though. Try Parliament House, or drive the ring road between showers. Anibare Bay works for a quick coastal visit when the weather clears, but don't count on a full beach day. Skip long walks on muddy tracks, especially around Buada Lagoon, and keep a flexible plan for wet spells.

Events and local life

There's no major annual festival that reliably takes place in April. Easter can fall in April, but celebrations and opening hours vary, so don't build your trip around a specific event. Nauru's Independence Day is in January, not April.

If you want quiet, April delivers. Nauru gets few visitors, and Yaren doesn't have the busy season you'd find at a major beach resort. But that calm doesn't make up for the rain. August and October to November are the better months overall, and May is only slightly drier. Don't expect a big price drop in April either, since flights and places to stay are limited all year.

Handling a wet day

Plan a short stop at Moqua Well, an underground freshwater lake in Yaren, for a change from the coast. Check locally before setting out, as rain can make access awkward. The same showers that interrupt sightseeing can also leave the ground slick.

Travelling with kids? Keep the ring-road drive as your backup, with stops when the rain eases. You'll see more of the island without relying on a long, exposed walk.
