April in Palikir is warm, sticky and very wet. Rain falls on most days, and heavy cloud often keeps the sun out. It's a little wetter than March, though May is wetter still. Expect the day to feel much the same from morning to evening.

You can still visit Kolonia's shops and cafés between showers, or take a short drive to see Sokehs Rock. But long hikes and waterfall trips can turn slippery, and rain may interrupt plans. Keep time in your day to wait out a downpour.

What to do

If you love lush scenery and don't mind rain, April can suit you. Pohnpei's forests and streams are full, but trails near waterfalls can be muddy. Nan Madol, the ancient stone city reached from Temwen Island, is a better choice when you have a clear spell and can manage wet paths.

Travelling with kids? Keep an indoor option in mind for the stickiest afternoons. There's no major April event I can confidently point to in Palikir. Easter sometimes falls in April, so church services may shape the feel of the day.

Crowds and local tips

April is outside Palikir's best months overall, February and August, and its frequent rain makes it a quieter time to visit. You're less likely to meet peak-season crowds, though the weather doesn't guarantee lower prices.

For Nan Madol, ask locally in Kolonia about conditions before setting out. The site involves a boat ride and walking among old stone walls, so a wet day can make the visit harder. If skies look poor, keep your plans close to Palikir instead.
