July feels hot and damp

July is Xianyang's hottest month, tied with no other month in the data. Days reach 34°C, and nights stay warm at around 23°C. Rain falls on many days, so the air can feel sticky and showers may interrupt outdoor plans.

The Han Yangling Museum's underground exhibits suit a wet afternoon better than a long walk outside. Save open-air sightseeing around Maoling Mausoleum for a break in the rain, and avoid planning a full day outdoors. If you hate heat, March, April and October are much more comfortable.

Summer break, not festival season

Prices may also rise compared with those shoulder-season months, especially for travel and accommodation near Xi'an. Xianyang is close to Xi'an, so expect some spillover from visitors using it as a base or stopping by on day trips.

Make room for rain
