Weifang Weather in December

Cold, dry days

December feels properly wintry in Weifang. Days reach about 5°C, while nights fall below freezing, so the cold is more noticeable after sunset. It's also dry, with just a couple of rainy days typically, and you'll get several hours of sunshine.

That makes short city visits workable. Spend some time at the Weifang World Kite Museum, then explore Shihuyuan Garden while the sun is up. Long outdoor strolls can feel chilly, especially later in the day. The short daylight window also means there's less time for sightseeing outside.

A quiet month

December has no major recurring Weifang festival. The city's famous International Kite Festival takes place in spring, not winter. Christmas isn't a public holiday in China, and local celebrations may be modest. New Year's Eve can bring activity, but it's not the city's main festival season.

If you hate crowds, December is a quieter choice than the spring kite festival or the popular April-to-May and September-to-October travel periods. Visitor numbers are generally lower, and hotels may cost less than during those busier months. Don't expect the lively festival feel, though.

Make the most of it

Travelling with kids? The World Kite Museum is a useful indoor stop when the cold makes outdoor exploring less fun. It gives you a close look at Weifang's kite-making traditions without relying on a long day outside.

Try local Weifang meat-fired pie, a crisp stuffed pastry, to warm up after a visit to Shihuyuan. December's dry weather suits a compact city break, but it's not ideal for spending all day outdoors. Keep longer walks for the brighter part of the day, and save garden visits for when the sun is out.
