May in Virar feels hot and sticky, even after sunset. Daytime highs reach 30°C, and nights stay warm, around 28°C. The sun is strong, but rain is still limited, so you're unlikely to lose whole days to showers. June brings a sharp jump in rain, though, as the monsoon approaches.

Plan outdoor sights for the morning, then take a long break indoors during the hottest part of the day. Arnala Beach can work for a breezy evening, but midday sand and heat make a long visit uncomfortable. A family with young children may prefer short outings and time in an air-conditioned space.

What to do

The steps up to Jivdani Temple are a tough choice in May's heat. Go early if you want the climb, and don't treat it as a casual afternoon stop. A quieter plan is to visit the temple area briefly, then spend the hotter hours at a café or indoors.

May 1 is Maharashtra Day, a state public holiday. Buddha Purnima also falls in May in some years, but its date changes. These can bring local observances and altered opening hours; Virar doesn't have a major May festival that draws visitors from far away.

Crowds and costs

May is generally quieter than Virar's more comfortable November-to-March season. You'll likely find fewer leisure visitors than in winter, though weekends and holidays can still feel busy around Jivdani Temple and Arnala. Prices may be easier than in peak season, but don't count on every stay or train being cheaper.

For a practical local tip, use Virar station as your base for the Jivdani visit, and avoid arriving at the hill in the heat of the day. The climb can feel much harder when the air is humid.
