June: heat and first rains

June is still very hot in Vadodara, though it's cooler than May. The high reaches 38°C, and rain falls on 12 days. Expect sticky afternoons, cloudy spells and sudden showers rather than a washout every day.

Keep outdoor sightseeing around Sayaji Garden or the old city for the cooler parts of the day. The air-conditioned galleries at the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum make a better midday stop. Skip long walks in the afternoon, when the heat can wear you down.

Ratha Yatra and local life

Vadodara's Jagannath Ratha Yatra, a procession of temple chariots, takes place around June or July. Its date follows the Hindu calendar, so it doesn't always fall in June. If it does, expect crowds around the route and some delays nearby.

Travelling with kids? Choose a museum visit over a long afternoon in the sun, and keep an eye out for rain on the way back.

Quieter, but not cool

June is less popular than December and January, Vadodara's most comfortable months. With the heat and rain, you'll usually find fewer leisure visitors than in the winter peak, and accommodation may cost less. July brings heavier rain, so June can suit you if you can handle the warmth.
