Visiting Tijuana in July
July weather
July feels warm and mostly dry in Tijuana. Afternoons can reach 31°C, but evenings cool down, and the coast often stays cloudy. You may get less sunshine than the long daylight suggests.
The dry weather suits exploring Avenida Revolución, browsing the Centro Cultural Tijuana, or eating tacos in the open air. For a cooler break, head to Playas de Tijuana and walk the boardwalk. Avoid long, exposed walks inland in the afternoon; the heat can make them tiring. June is wetter, while August is a little hotter, so July sits between them.
Events and crowds
July 4 is a US holiday, not a Mexican one, but it can bring more cross-border visitors and traffic near San Ysidro. Tijuana's summer weekends also draw people from across the border. The city may feel busier than in quieter autumn or winter months, and hotel prices can rise on popular weekends.
If you hate crowds, visit Avenida Revolución on a weekday and leave the border crossing for a quieter time. July isn't known for one major annual festival in central Tijuana; the best-known Baja wine harvest events are held in nearby Valle de Guadalupe, mainly in August.
A local tip
If you're heading to Playas de Tijuana, take the road west from downtown and make the beach your late-afternoon stop. The sea air feels cooler than inland, and the long border fence gives the shoreline a very distinct character. Don't expect a full day of bright beach sun: cloud cover is common, even when it's warm.
Travelling with kids? Keep the Centro Cultural Tijuana in mind for a hot afternoon. Its large sphere-shaped building is easy to spot near Zona Río, and indoor exhibits offer a break from the heat.
