Warm days, lively evenings

June feels like summer in Thessaloniki. Afternoons reach 31°C, while evenings cool to around 19°C. You'll get long days and plenty of sun, but some rain still falls, so a shower can interrupt a walk.

The waterfront promenade, Ano Poli's lanes and the Archaeological Museum work well when you want to explore without a beach trip. Save the steep climb through Ano Poli for later in the day; the midday heat can make its stone streets tiring. For a cooler break, duck into the air-conditioned museum or linger over coffee.

June events and crowds

Thessaloniki Pride usually takes place in June, bringing a parade and events to the city. Dates change each year, so the exact timing can affect how busy the centre feels. The Orthodox holiday of Holy Spirit Monday also falls in May or June, depending on the year. Some services and shops may close.

June is busier and often pricier than May, but usually calmer than July and August. It's a good fit for couples who want warm evenings without the peak summer crush.

A good time for the waterfront

Rain is close to May's level, but June is warmer and drier than July only in the sense of having more rain: July gets less. Keep indoor options in mind for wet spells, and don't count on every day being clear.

For a local pause, order bougatsa, a flaky pastry often filled with custard, near the Modiano Market. Then walk toward Aristotelous Square and the waterfront as the heat eases. If you're visiting the White Tower, its exhibits offer a welcome indoor stop during the hottest part of the day.
