Surat Weather in March

March feels hot

Surat is already hot in March. Afternoons reach 38°C, and the sun feels strong across the open streets. Mornings and evenings are easier, but even nights stay warm. Rain is rare, so you're unlikely to lose much sightseeing time to showers.

Visit the Dutch Garden or Sardar Patel Museum earlier in the day, then take a long indoor break during the hottest hours. Dumas Beach works better near sunset than at midday. Skip long outdoor walks in the afternoon; the heat can make them tiring fast.

Holi and local days

Holi, the Hindu festival of colours, sometimes falls in March. Its date changes each year, so check the calendar for your visit. If you're in Surat during the celebrations, expect coloured powder, lively neighbourhood gatherings and possible changes to shop hours.

Travelling with kids? Holi can be fun, but crowded celebrations and coloured powder may not suit everyone. Ask locally before joining in, and keep your plans flexible that day.

Quieter than winter

March is outside Surat's best-weather stretch, which runs from October to January. You'll generally find fewer visitors than in those cooler months, and hotel rates may be lower. The trade-off is the heat, which gets worse in April.

For a local food stop, try locho, a soft, savoury snack that's closely tied to Surat. It's a good choice after your morning outing, before the afternoon heat sets in. At Dumas, save your walk along the shore for evening; the beach is far more pleasant then.
