October's wet side

October feels hot, sticky and often cloudy. The temperature stays around 27°C, while rain falls on most days. September is even wetter, but November is much drier, so October can still bring showers that interrupt a beach day.

You can visit the American Memorial Park, explore Garapan's shops, or drive to Bird Island when the weather clears. But long swims and boat trips are less reliable, especially when rain roughens the sea. At the Grotto, don't enter the water if conditions look rough; its steep steps make turning back harder once you're down there.

Events and island mood

October doesn't have a major Saipan festival on the scale of July's Liberation Day. Halloween brings seasonal activities, while Columbus Day, a US federal holiday, falls in October. Treat it as a quieter month for local events rather than a reason to plan your trip around a big celebration.

If you hate crowds, October may suit you. It's outside the island's best-weather stretch of February to May and December, so visitor numbers and room rates are generally softer than in those popular months. Rain can also mean fewer people at sights such as Banzai Cliff. Still, don't expect empty beaches every day.

Make the weather work

Travelling with kids? Keep a flexible plan, with an indoor stop in Garapan ready for a sudden downpour. Humidity stays high, and the frequent cloud can make a full day outdoors feel tiring. Save exposed coastal stops for a break in the rain.

A useful local tip: check sea conditions before heading to the Grotto, not just the sky above Garapan. Rain and rough water can make snorkeling unsafe even when the town looks calm. October's short sunny spells are better for a quick coastal visit than a packed day of water activities.
