June weather

June feels mild and humid in Qingdao, with highs around 23°C and lows near 19°C. The air can feel sticky, and rain falls on several days, though you'll still get useful sunshine. It's a comfortable month for walking the old streets around Badaguan or taking in the sea views from Zhanqiao Pier.

Beach time works on brighter days, but don't count on every afternoon being clear. Save a long Laoshan hike for a dry spell; wet trails can make the climb less pleasant. July is warmer and much wetter, so June is a good middle ground if you want outdoor time without the heavier summer rain.

Festivals and crowds

The Dragon Boat Festival sometimes falls in June; its date changes each year. If it does, you may see local celebrations and find zongzi, sticky rice wrapped in leaves, at shops and food stalls.

If you hate crowds, June is usually calmer than July and August, Qingdao's busier summer months. Chinese schools generally haven't started their long summer break yet, though the holiday can bring a short rush of domestic visitors. May and October are stronger choices for a quieter, more comfortable trip overall. June demand can rise around the festival, so expect popular sights to feel busier then.

Make the most of a wet spell

Keep the Tsingtao Brewery Museum in Shibei District for a rainy afternoon. It gives you an indoor look at the city's best-known beer, and you can try a fresh pour if you're old enough to drink.

Travelling with kids? Pair the museum with a shorter walk around nearby historic streets, rather than making a wet day a beach day. Qingdao's humidity is high in June, so take breaks indoors when the air starts to feel close. You'll still have long daylight hours for a stroll along the waterfront when the skies clear.
