Qingdao Weather in April

April: cool spring days

April feels like a proper change from March, but Qingdao is still cool by the sea. Afternoons reach around 14°C, while evenings can feel chilly, especially along the waterfront. Rain is usually brief rather than constant, so you can still enjoy outdoor plans on most days.

It's a good month for walking the old streets around Badaguan, where leafy lanes and historic villas make a pleasant break from the wind. You can also visit the beer museum or stroll past Zhanqiao Pier. The sea is too cold for swimming, and a grey, windy day can make long beach visits less appealing.

Blossoms and Qingming

Zhongshan Park's cherry blossoms are a spring draw, and the park can get busy when they're in bloom. Qingming Festival, the tomb-sweeping holiday, also falls in early April. Many local families visit ancestral graves, and travel gets busier around the holiday.

If you hate crowds, avoid Zhongshan Park and major train routes during the Qingming break. Outside that holiday and blossom peak, April is generally quieter than May and the summer high season. Rooms and flights are often less costly than in those busier months, though holiday demand can push prices up.

Make the most of the coast

April's longer days leave time for a walk from Zhanqiao Pier toward the old German-era buildings near the shore. Keep a warm layer handy for the sea breeze; the same walk can feel much colder once the sun drops. For a sheltered stop, duck into a café in Badaguan between walks.

Travelling with kids? Zhongshan Park has room to wander, but blossom crowds can make the paths slow. Go outside the Qingming holiday if you want a calmer visit.
