Save long inland outings for a dry spell, since sticky afternoons can wear you out.

Easter and crowds

April also brings Semana Santa, the Dominican Republic's Holy Week around Easter. Local families head to the coast then, so beaches and resorts can feel busier, especially during the holiday itself. Outside that stretch, crowds tend to thin as the winter high season winds down. Prices may be lower than during the peak weeks of winter, but Easter can bring a fresh rush, so plan around it. If you'd rather avoid the busiest days, visit Bávaro after Holy Week rather than during it.

Planning around the showers
