October is warm and humid, but it's a relief after September's heavier rain. Expect sticky afternoons, with some showers rather than rain every day. The shorter days still leave time to explore Puning's streets and villages.

De'anli, a historic village with old Teochew-style homes, works well for a slow wander between showers. You can also browse the Puning International Commodity City, though its indoor aisles may feel stuffy. Skip long, exposed walks in the hottest part of the day.

National Day crowds

China's National Day holiday begins on October 1, and the first week can bring more domestic visitors. Stations, popular sights and transport may feel busier then. Outside the holiday, October is generally quieter than the peak winter months, when Puning's weather is cooler and drier.

If you hate crowds, visit De'anli after the holiday week, when it's easier to take your time around the lanes. Prices can be higher during the holiday, especially for transport and stays; the rest of October is usually a calmer shoulder-season choice.
