Puerto Vallarta Weather in April

April: hot and mostly dry

Puerto Vallarta is warm in April, with daytime highs around 35°C and nights near 20°C. Rain is rare, so you can expect plenty of dry days for the Malecón, boat trips and beach time. The midday sun can feel fierce, though. Save long walks through the Zona Romántica for later in the day, and avoid strenuous hikes when the afternoon heat peaks.

The sea breeze can make the coast feel more comfortable than inland streets, but don't count on it to cool every outing. April is hotter than March, and May gets hotter still.

Easter and family days

Semana Santa, Mexico's Holy Week holiday, sometimes falls in April. When it does, Mexican families head to the coast, and beaches and central streets get busy. The dates change each year, so the holiday may instead fall in March.

April 30 is Día del Niño, or Children's Day. Families may find special activities around town, though it isn't a major visitor festival. Families travelling during Easter should expect more company on Playa Los Muertos and around the Malecón.

Crowds, costs and a local tip

Outside Easter week, April is usually calmer than Puerto Vallarta's December-to-February high season. Accommodation prices often ease after the winter rush, but holiday demand can push them up during Semana Santa. For a quieter stay, the days after the holiday are a better bet.

For an easy evening outing, take the short walk from the Malecón into the Zona Romántica for tacos al pastor. Go when the sun is lower; the cobbled streets and open-air tables are far more pleasant then.
