June: hot, wet afternoons

What to do, and what to skip

Keep outdoor plans flexible. Visit the Vallarta Botanical Garden in the morning, then enjoy a long lunch in Zona Romántica when the afternoon turns muggy. A short swim may still fit between showers, but don't count on a full, sunny beach day. For a drier evening, head to the Malecón and watch the sky clear over the bay.

June is also the start of sea turtle nesting season on local beaches. Follow marked areas and leave nests undisturbed if you spot them. Mexico's Father's Day falls in June, too, so local restaurants can feel busier for family meals that Sunday.

Quieter streets and a local tip

June is low season compared with the busy December-to-February period. You'll generally find fewer visitors and softer hotel demand, though rain is part of the trade-off.

For a useful local plan, take the bus to Boca de Tomatlán for the coastal path toward Playa Las Ánimas only when the trail is dry. After rain, stick to town or take a boat instead; the path can turn muddy and slick.
