Pudong Weather in November

Cool days by the river

November in Pudong feels cool and often cloudy, with mild afternoons and chilly evenings. The high reaches 18°C and the low falls to 10°C. Rain comes on 10 days, but there are still about five hours of sun each day.

It's a good month for the Shanghai Museum East or a walk along the Lujiazui riverside. On clear days, you can take in the skyline from the waterfront; on damp ones, keep indoor stops like the Shanghai Tower observation deck in mind. The shorter days leave less time for long outdoor wanders, and wet paths can make a riverside stroll less pleasant.

Events and crowds

There's no major national holiday in November, so Pudong is generally calmer than during October's Golden Week. Prices and crowds tend to ease after October, though the China International Import Expo, usually held in early November at Shanghai's National Exhibition and Convention Center, can bring a brief rise in hotel demand across the city.

If you hate crowds, visit Lujiazui on a weekday and steer clear of expo dates if you can. The expo is across town, but its visitors can still affect transport and hotel availability.

Make the most of your visit

November is autumn, and the weather is comfortable for sightseeing without summer's sticky heat. It's less suited to a full day outdoors than October, which is Pudong's best month overall. Rainfall is similar to October, but December is drier and colder, so November offers a useful middle ground.

Travelling with kids? The Shanghai Science and Technology Museum is a handy indoor choice for a rainy day, near Century Park. For skyline views, take Metro Line 2 to Lujiazui, then walk to the Shanghai Tower; you won't need to cross the river to reach it.
