Pudong Weather in March

Mild, damp spring

March feels cool rather than wintry in Pudong. Afternoons reach about 15°C, but mornings and evenings can feel chilly, with lows near 6°C. Rain falls on 11 days, and the sky is often cloudy.

It's a good month for short walks along the Lujiazui riverside or a visit to the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. Keep outdoor plans flexible: wet paths and grey skies can make a long day at Century Park less appealing. The Bund's skyline views are still worth crossing the river for, but clouds may hide the tops of Pudong's towers.

Blossoms and quieter streets

The Shanghai Peach Blossom Festival is held in Pudong, usually around late March or early April. Nanhui's peach orchards are a lovely reason to head out of the city centre, though blossom timing shifts with the weather.

March is a shoulder-season month, before busier spring travel and the popular autumn months. You'll generally find fewer visitors than in peak periods, and hotel rates are often gentler than in October. Weekends at blossom spots can still draw local families.

If you hate crowds, visit Nanhui on a weekday and avoid the festival's busiest areas at weekends.

Plan around the clouds

For a practical Lujiazui day, pair the riverside with indoor stops at Shanghai IFC Mall or the Shanghai Ocean Aquarium. If rain rolls in, you won't have to abandon the area.

Take Metro Line 2 to Lujiazui for easy access to the towers and riverfront. On a clear afternoon, head outside for the skyline; on a grey one, spend more time indoors instead. Don't count on a long, sunny stretch: March averages less than five hours of sunshine a day.
